Berkeley Man Arrested in Connection With Slaying

Berkeley police arrested a man on Wednesday in connection with the February murder of a homeless woman on University Avenue, the Bay City News reported.

Darrell Lamont Morgan, 18, was arrested at his Berkeley house in connection with the death of West Berkeley resident Maria King, police told the Bay City News.

King, 49, was severely beaten on Feb. 8 at University Avenue and California Street and left on the sidewalk, police said. She died two weeks later at Highland Hospital in Oakland.

Another suspect, 18-year-old Jarell Maurice Johnson, was arrested at the time of the incident and will be put on trial for murder next month.
