(Click on a name below to read their story)
Amanda - I'm a single mom
to a boisterous 6 year old boy with attention and self-control problems. I was
laid off of my last permanent job a few years ago, and had a hard time finding
anything that paid what I'd been making.
Carolyn - I was homeless
for over 20 year period. I stayed at the Oakland Homeless Project several times
where I received peer counseling and substance abuse counseling and they also
helped stabilize my health and I received help from Oakland Independent Support.
Jimmy - In 2002, I was so
hopeless, helpless and homeless, I could not stop using and drinking, all
efforts had failed. I got so depressed and desperate that I tried to commit
suicide and ended up in John George Hospital for eight days.
Judd - Judd is an
accomplished educator, administrator with extensive experience and interest in
Japanese culture. He first went to Japan as a teenager to seriously pursue his
martial art training in Aikido.
Kathryn - My name is
Kathryn and I am a recovering addict / alcoholic. I am honored to have been
chosen as a BOSS graduate. I was in my addiction for the greater part of my
life.
Georgia - In 2001, I was a
student at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Shortly afterwards, I began
experiencing symptoms of manic depression but after 911 and the anthrax mail
scare I went into a tail spin and was eventually diagnosed with bi-polar
disorder.
