When I was my hurt, I lost my job and it took me to a level
where I couldn’t work every day. I fell and got hurt and it took away my career.
My pain and stress and cold snow caused me to leave my home. The situation led
me to California.
When we came out here, my son and I, stayed with a friend but that did not work
out very well so we ended up homeless. My son and I moved into Harrison House; a
learning experience, they had a lot to offer me, as far as helping me get back
on my feet. They had programs to help me with stress. And then we moved to
McKinley House, which is a transitional house.
The combined knowledge from McKinley House and my knowledge led me to get my own
place, a nice home in a nice neighborhood and nice schools. I am working hard on
putting our lives back together and to complete the process, I need a van. So
that is the next step for me to accomplish.
To all the women that walk into Harrison House behind me, please use the
resources to help you and better yourself, it can be done. They have a lot to
offer. A closed mind never gets fed.
