Anonymous 3I have experienced homelessness since 1991. Before that I had a job, a career, an apartment and a future. Slowly I deteriorated mentally without no awareness of it at all. I thought by being strong, there was nothing I could not handle. I had jobs here and there but the joblessness and homelessness made me unstable for permanent work. Moving from place to place, sleeping in laundry rooms and apartments with the blinds closed, I actually got a good night rest every once in a while. Now I think about the homelessness I went through and it keeps me awake at night. I take medication to sleep. I am grateful with my move from east coast to California I can start fresh with BOSS. I was quick to learn the shelter program in California and that is how I ended up with BOSS. I suffer from PTSD, (post traumatic stress disorder) depression, nightmares and loneliness and a life that’s been stolen from me by people in power. As a child I lived in third world countries and some ways my homelessness mirrored the life of those in third world countries; hungry with no public bathroom. I suffered much pain, embarrassment and humiliation at the hands of others. I am blessed to be here, but I am still going through heavy depression. I should have been here in California as a child but I was kidnapped when I was less than three years old. Thank God I found BOSS because I can’t find my family.
