Sharon

I had a car wreck in 1974 that ended my career in AT&T engineer. In 1983 I began having mental problems, depression from not working, and also had deaths in the family. Then in 1983 a girl moved into my house that was using drugs and she got me started.

That situation lasted for 10 years. She stole my money and other stuff many times over the 10 years. I got very depressed and my doctor started me on psychiatric medication but I was still using. The combination of medication and the drugs left me out of it.

I had owned the house with someone else and they put me out. I have been off and on homeless for about 5 years.

My case manager from the Oakland homeless project helped me get into the south county homeless project. The groups help me a lot, groups like NA, and we get help on finding housing, I have been taken my medication regularly and I have now been clean for about four months. I feel good.

My advice is to keep taking your medications, pray if you believe in it, and stay away from people that use.
